Two pumps with similar housings may be intended for different tasks. Start by identifying the requirements of the appliance or process the pump will work with. The words “service kit” or the largest figure in the name do not confirm compatibility.
Flow rate and ultimate vacuum are different specifications
Flow rate describes the flow, usually stated in litres per minute or CFM. Ultimate vacuum indicates the pressure that can be achieved under the manufacturer's measurement conditions. Compare values in the same units and using the same definition of the parameter. Do not equate a higher flow rate with a lower ultimate pressure.
In a real system, leak-tightness, hoses and connections also matter. A catalogue result for the pump alone is not a promise of the same result for the entire installation. For demanding applications, also check how the vacuum is measured, not just the pump's equipment.
Single-stage or two-stage?
The stage count describes the pump's design. However, it does not replace checking the full specification. Compare the required pressure, permitted operating mode and compatibility with the medium being handled. Choosing a two-stage version simply because it sounds more professional may not solve a problem with unsuitable connections or applications.
What the kit actually contains
Read the list of supplied items. An illustrative photo should not be the only confirmation that gauges, hoses, adapters or oil are included. Check the thread types and dimensions, instrument ranges and their stated compatibility with the specific task. Do not select hoses by colour alone.
Operation and workspace
Check the power supply requirements, recommended oil, how its level is checked and access to the plugs. The instructions should specify operating conditions and maintenance tasks. Plan a stable work area and ventilation. Do not start the appliance without the preparation required by the manufacturer.
A vacuum pump is not a substitute for a refrigerant recovery machine. Have work on refrigeration systems carried out by someone with the appropriate qualifications; this guide is for comparing equipment and does not describe a servicing procedure.
Selection summary
- Identify the process requirements before browsing offers.
- Compare flow rate and ultimate pressure separately.
- Confirm the connections and every kit component you need.
- Check the instructions, consumables and operating conditions.
A well-matched pump meets specific requirements. Extra accessories do not compensate for incompatible key specifications.
